Toastmaster experience from 孤鳥 Toastmaster experience articel from 孤鳥 <-----linking to orginial one. Even before hearing Mr.鶴龍 talks about the toastmasters, I’ve long before thought about going but was never brave enough to go. I think mostly is due to my personality. I am all right with one on one, but was never comfortable enough to speak in front of a group of people. However, deep in my heart, I’ve struggled many times thinking that I must overcome this 新成屋fear, otherwise, I will never get improved on my public speaking skills. Last Monday I stepped out of my comfort zone to face my own fears, and here I will share with you about my experiences. As I have mentioned in the beginning, I’ve thought about attending the Toastmasters long time ago when I first heard about how it could improve one’s public speaking skills. The main reason that I always chicken out was because I heard that they 澎湖民宿 will ask you to improvise something to say during the meeting. That is my weakest shortcomings, and it matters not if I am speaking English, Mandarin or Taiwanese. I will stutter anyway. But this time, I made up my mind that I should not allow my fear to hinder my speaking ability any longer. I was about 20 minutes early when I got there; the door was still locked. I met a guy in the parking lot and he happens to be a new member who has just joined th 會場佈置e club last week. He was nice enough to explain to me what to expect at the meeting, and he told me that the only requirement for this particular toastmasters club is that you have to be single and 18 years old or above which I have qualified. As the door opened, I was greeted by some friendly members who just tried to make me feel comfortable there. The meeting started promptly at 7:00 P.M., and it contains three main parts with an organized agenda. The three main parts are the tab 開幕活動le topics (ask 4-6 questions to practice impromptu speaking), prepared speeches (3-4 speeches given by members of their own choice), and evaluations (oral evaluation provided by assigned members). The meeting was run by some functionary roles that were assigned beforehand; they are, toastmaster, word master, timer, ah counter, video master, host & awards master….etc. As I have observed, it is also a good practice when you were assigned those functionary roles since you still got opportunities going to the 酒店工作 front stage to say something or to introduce someone. I think one has to think and react fairly quickly during the table topics time because once the table topics master finished reading with one question, one member was called right away to go to the front stage to answer that question for about 2 minutes. I was really amused to see that to happen, to be honest with you, and I’m not so sure that I am able to do that at all. Next were the three prepared speeches. Tonight’s topics include “Learn to Speed Read” 西裝外套, “Talk to Yourself” and “How to protest your property taxes.”  These were not long speeches, ranging from 5 minutes to 15 minutes per speaker. At first, I was just concentrated on listening to what they were presenting, not until during the evaluation time that I’ve realized that the content of the speech is not the only main focus, we actually have to pay attention to their body language, voice tone, the words they’ve used, the transition, the objectives, praises and suggestions for improvement as well. Oh, almost forgo 吳哥窟t to mention, in the beginning of the meeting, the word master introduced the “Word of the Day” to be used by all speakers. That word is “erudite” which means a display of great learning or scholarly. After the evaluations given, there were award presentation to the best table topics speaker, the best speech and the best evaluator. Then it comes to the wrap-up and guest comments. Since I am the guest, so I have to say something on what I think about the meeting. I thought it should not be so hard to say something, but once I opened my mouth sta 太平洋房屋rting to speak, I stuttered again like an idiot. Just could not believe it. It’s good that I’ve done a little psychological preparation before coming to the meeting, so I don’t feel that embarrassing this time. After the meeting adjourned, the group went to a restaurant for another social gathering. Since I did not plan to go home too late that night, so I declined the offer. Before I drove home, the toastmaster asked if I would come back again. Frankly speaking, I was hesitating and debating within myself. I personally think it is really a good speech training pr 膠原蛋白ogram; however, on the other hand, I am a little doubt that I will be able to do what they were doing. After few seconds of thinking, I answered her “yes.”  Somehow, I just hate to be a “quitter”, I guess. That is why I wanted to write down my experiences at the toastmasters club, as a learning diary, to see what kind of progress that I will make if I stay on. May the Lord Jesus help me, giving me the strength to overcome my fears in public speaking. Amen. .msgcontent .wsharing ul li { text-indent: 0; } 分享 Facebook Plurk YAHOO! 酒肉朋友  .
